Aguadilla

Aguadilla is a town in the north western tip of Puerto Rico bordered by the Atlantic on the north and west. It is about 85 miles from San Juan.

El Parterre, Aguadilla's central park, has kiosks nearby that draw tourists. The shops were not open when we were there.

There is a natural spring in the park where it is said Christopher Columbus documented that he and his crew refreshed themselves during his first arrival to Puerto Rico in November 19, 1493.

We drove to Crash Boat Beach. The beach was once used by the US Air Force. It was a small port with a pier where rescue boats for downed planes would dock. The old pier still stretches out into the ocean. People jump into the water from the pier for the thrill of it.

Today, the colorful fishing boats, known as "Aguadillanas" are along the shore. There are kiosks of food, drinks, and crafts. There are also picnic tables.

The water was crystal clear and snorkeling was good.

We had lunch at Cocina Creativa. It was delicious!
